Hey, its the first post in a really long time. I hope everyone hasn't forgotten about us out there. I am going to try and keep up with this more. I am serious, I really am. If we try really hard, maybe we can get Russell back on the set as well.
Here is the first piece in a long time for the site and even longer from me. Enjoy!
It's the small things
Every so often someone comes along and gives you the chance to make fun of them relentlessly. These times are often when you least expect them.
I was reminded of this fact of life when my grandmother called me Monday and fell down the stairs while we were talking. It was crazy. I laughed for ten minutes. The whole time all she could do was ask me if I knew the phone numbers to any local hospitals because “she thinks she might have hurt herself.”
Of course I didn’t know the phone numbers to any area hospitals because my grandmother lives 300 miles from me. Also, if I were to call a hospital for her then how would I have been able to stay on the line and ridicule her inhumanely for a while?
I think it is safe to say that the jokes write themselves whenever your grandmother falls down a flight of stairs. I used such classics as:
“Oh, you hurt yourself? Well, I’m dying over here from all this painful laughter. It’s really the thought of the look on your face while you were falling that is making me laugh this much.”
“God you are such an asshole, I wish I could have seen that. It sounded hilarious.”
“Robert Goulet will never sleep with you now.”
“Jesus Christ Grandma, maybe you could watch where you are going next time numbnuts.”
The good news, I felt much better after all that laughing, which I think has something to do with the therapeutic nature of laughter in general. The bad news, the glass of Coke I made before I started laughing, well I forgot about it, and the ice melted in it making it completely undrinkable. It was also the last of the Coke.
We need to remember that it is the small things in life that make it worth living. Just the thought of that little moment in my life fills my heart. I hope by sharing this story I have given you a way to look in your life and see all the funny moments. It can be easy to focus on the negative but when you remember that old people are hilarious when they fall, life seems just a little bit better.
