This Isn't As Cyincal As You Would Expect...

I'm having a party.

Oh, I'm sorry...not in the future...I mean right now.

Currently, there is a party at my house. My roommate and I made 5 gallons of punch, which is a staple at any party we host. Our friends are here, drinking said punch. Conversations are being had and mirth is being shared.

Which seems odd: Why is he blogging during this time of merriment???

It's because I have little else to do. The punch has been mixed (it's f-ing delicious, by the way), the snacks have been laid out, some of the people have arrived. The conversation is ongoing. Our group is very congenial. We have varied interests, jobs and backgrounds.

Several are teachers, several are nurses. One is a high school football coach; one runs a restaurant at one of the local casinos. A couple are doctors, or studying to be such. But we all have common interests and common experiences.

Gone is the high school bullshit that may keep friends apart in younger days. Gone are any issues which arise early in a relationship. We have all been friends for so long, it's hard to imagine a day when we weren't.

I'm 26. Just saying. It's been so long since I've had to "make friends" that I really don't know how to. My friends know me; I know them. I can be myself, or at least a version of myself. HINT: This version says cunt a lot...

So, I suppose I should tell you some funny stories. Or maybe let you know whats happening at this party. But I don't think I will. I think I'll tell you to go find your own friends. Go set up a party at your house. Turns out your friends will come, will hang out with one another. Because they are friends. They are your friends.

So go. Have a good time. It doesn't matter. Dominos. Phase 10. Poker. Naked twister. Sitting around re-telling the same stories over and over. All that matters is that you are with one another.

If I've learned anything from life, it's that "whatever" works. Take what you can get and make the most of it. And when you finally go home to see your maker (General Electric) you can know that you had friends, and they had you.

I leave you with one of my favorite videos. It's a Slovenian vocal choir singing Toto's Africa. But the beginning is what you need to see. They simulate a thunderstorm, and it truly enters your soul. And by truly enters your soul, I mean it's freaking awesome!

You have a good weekend, and try to spend it with people you care about!
