Ante Meridiem Eye Openers-January 15, 2008CE

1) Let's all welcome USA Today to the daily list of places I look for news. There are several so let's just lump them all into number 1. First up is the UFO seeker who searches for dinosaur tracks in his spare time. I made none of that up. Apparently he is much better at finding dinosaurs than UFO's, which in itself isn't exactly news. Next up is a lovely piece detailing the lives of the long term volunteers in New Orleans helping with Katrina relief. Finally, The Smurfs are 50 years old, which just goes to show you that acid trips can't be all that bad.

2) The fallout continues from that crazy lady killing her children in Washington DC. 6 child welfare employees were fired for lack of giving a shit about their jobs. The thing is, this level of atrociousness is rare, but the situation can't be so. Crazy parents taking their kids out of school to home school them, and the city losing contact with them. Kids being taken to cults or whatever. Of course, it's not like I have some great plan, I'm just here to bitch about it.

3) If you liked the first go round, Catholic Diocese of Boston, then you will love it's tragic even more sadistic sequel, Jesuit Oregon Province, which includes the town of St. Michael in Alaska. Charles Manson working alongside John Wayne Gacy couldn't come up with fiction to rival this true story of abuse and rape in the church in Alaska. All your favorite characters are back, including giving alcohol and candy to kids, but there are new facets, such as the forced abortion blamed on the girl's father. Yes, it just makes you want to devote your life to vigilantism.

Finally, a water buffalo crashed through Vietnam for 3 miles the other day, goring 4 people during it's uncontrolled rampage. Not funny, but it does give me an excuse to play the Water Buffalo Song I found. Enjoy:
