I Have Not Yet Begun To Fight!!!!

In political news: It's over!!!! Well...over to the extent that we have 22 more weeks of grueling campaigning where we don't even get the extra 5 minutes it takes the candidates to tell us how much they respect their opponents. Now it's just Dem v GOP. Liberal v Conservative. Star Trek v Star Wars.

Last night, with only math and superdelegates to tell him so, Barack Obama nutted up in Minneapolis (the first time "nut up" and "Minneapolis" have been used in the same sentence. I'm talking to you, Vikings.) and announced how proud and happy he was to accept the presumptive nomination of his party for President of the United States. And Hilary said, "Thanks, good night" and went to bed. Isn't there something missing there? Oh yea, she never conceded. Look for it sometime this week, but still-she's holding on to this tighter than a Baptist's pussy.

Jesus-Tapdancing-Christ, I Can Smile!!!!

Several prominent Democrats have been floated as Obama's running mate, with Clinton at the top, obviously. She has said she is not opposed to joining the ticket as the number 2, which would do wonders to heal the party come Election Day. Of course there are others who might do just as well. I have heard Evan Bayh's name floated almost since the beginning, but that's a long shot. I can't see him not taking a good look at Bill Richardson, who would grab up some of the valuable Hispanic vote. The others are even longer shots, and I can't see him making the John Edwards choice again. Edwards would be like picking the Buffalo Bills in their 3rd Super Bowl--You had better be from Buffalo if you are making that bet. History ain't on your side.

Let's not forget about John McCain. McCain, who has been the Republican choice for so long I'm surprised they didn't just move the convention up to today, has begun his general campaign against Obama already and he has chosen Louisiana to do it in. Not such an odd choice if he is trying to woo new Governor Bobby Jindal from his seat in the State Capitol to be his Vice President. Jindal is the hot piece of ass in the Republican Party, and although I'm pretty liberal, I wish he would stay. We have lost almost all of our heavy hitters in Congress and a strong voice is necessary at this point in our development.

See, Voters: I've Got A Black Man, Too.

Probably the best article today deals with the economic differences between Obama and McCain. Here is a primer for those of you who might be undecided, autistic, or newly arrived from the Andromeda galaxy. If you agree that Social Security benefits should be drastically reduced, and when you are dealing with the health of you and your family you should be "cost-conscious" (Oh, my daughter doesn't need two legs, does she??), but also want to "investigate mortgage crimes involving lending and securitizing home loans" and a gas tax holiday then you want to vote for McCain. If you want lawmakers to fund the earmarks (we can't just stop building bridges, even if they go nowhere) they request, have tax cuts for the middle class and not just for the rich, but also develop a quick-fix jalopy of insurance plans to create the illusion of Universal Coverage then vote for Obama.

Finally, for those of us who just love history: Gina Gershon's career!! But seriously, Vanity Fair, who I trust for all of my hard-hitting journalism, reports that Former-President Bill Clinton has been seeing her, and by "her" I mean "her naked". What they don't say is that at a campaign stop in Columbus, Clinton didn't have full cable and Showgirls was on TBS, so it was just about all that was on.

I'm So Excited, I'm So Excited, I'm So---SCARED!!!!?????!!!!!

So here we have it, Obama and McCain. Now we wait for the lightning and the rain to pour down upon us until November, where one candidate will say "It's over and we need to stand behind out new president". Which no one ever does or wants to do.
